I came to WHFC in 2010 as a senior player and started coaching U8s in 2014 when my boy Baxter started playing for WHFC.

 

Prior to WHFC I played in the top state leagues in Qld and Tasmania before moving to Victoria. I then played for 10 years at Moreland City and have been at WHFC now for 12 years.

 

My boy Baxter has played over 120 junior games with WHFC and is one of our Vice Captain’s now after being Captain for a few years. Our new Captain this year, Finn Culbard has been with me since 2015 and just played his 100th game for the club. We have 3 more players with over 70 games that I coached for close to all of those games and 10 players who joined in the last 3 years.

 

Marco Visser is our team manager this year but involved for many years in this team and took over from Ian Culbard who managed with me for 7 years prior. Without either of them, their would be so much more to do for me rather than coach the boys. I also have to say that all the parents over the past 8 years have been great. 

 

These boys are starting to gel this year now after a difficult start to the year. We only had 11 one week prior to the season starting and were not able to play any pre-season friendlies. It wasn’t till 2 weeks into the season that we had signed 15 players and we only had our first full squad available at round 6 which we won 5-1. We played the first 5 matches with 12 or less and quite a few were sick and played. We are sitting at 2 wins and 4 losses.

 

Now that we have a full squad available I’m looking forward to seeing how the boys perform each week. They are working hard at training on positioning in defence and attack. I have set some targets for the next 4 games and I am looking forward to the boys rising to the challenge.

 

They are a great bunch of boys that are starting to develop into young men. They need to work harder on their first touch and passing but are capable of beating any team in their league when they play as a team.
