Dear members, players and supporters of Watsonia Heights FC,
The Executive Committee of WHFC are excited to begin a new year and we hope to have you all back playing for and supporting our club in 2022. As always, new players are always welcome to join us and we also welcome those who would like to be involved in one of the largest sporting clubs in the Banyule City Council area.
In 2022, our club will be making the most of one of the best football facilities in the local area –Greensborough College Sporting Precinct, with our senior and competition junior teams playing games on Friday Nights, Saturday and all day Sunday. We also have the two grounds at Elder Street Reserve from March 2022. Once the season begins, there will plenty of football to watch or get involved in – which will help make up for all the football lost in the last two seasons.
To help you all prepare for the 2022 season, we’d like to share the key dates concerning our club and its programs. Competition dates have been taken from the Football Victoria 2022 Competitions Calendar.
Greensborough College and Greensborough College Sporting Precinct – closed to the Public
Due to construction works and the demolition of the old school buildings, all of Greensborough College will be closed to the Public from Monday January 10th through to Friday January 21st. Please share this information with the local community, as the demolition works will include the removal of asbestos from the site.
Senior Men Preseason Training Start Date/Time
Preseason training for First Team, Reserve Team and starting Tuesday the 11th January at Gabonia Avenue Reserve, 58-60 Gabonia Avenue, Watsonia. Training will begin at 7:00pm, with the clubrooms being open from 6:15pm. Preseason training will be Tuesday’s and Thursday’s at Gabonia Avenue until Thursday 20th January. As of either Monday 24th or Tuesday the 25th January, preseason training will continue at Greensborough College Sporting Precinct, 59 Nepean Street Greensborough.
Senior Men First Practice Match
Our senior men’s first team and reserve team will host Westvale FC on Saturday 22nd January at Greensborough College Sporting Precinct. The Kick Off times are currently 1:00pm and 3:00pm, but may change due to 5:00pm and 7:00pm if the weather is extremely hot. If Greensborough College demolition works have not completed by 21st January, the game may be moved to Gabonia Avenue Reserve. Updates will be posted on the website and social media.
Senior Women Preseason Training Start Date/Time
Preseason training for our State 2 North-West, State 3 North and State 5 North women’s teams will begin on Thursday the 27th January at Greensborough College Sporting Precinct, 59 Nepean Street Greensborough. Training will begin at 7:00pm, with the clubrooms being open from 6:15pm. Preseason training will be Tuesday’s and Thursday’s unless advised by the senior women’s teams’ coaches.
Junior Teams Preseason Training Start Dates/Times
Our Technical Director – Tony Kolokythas will be working with all our junior team coaches to organise start dates and times for all our junior teams. Once we have Council approval to utilise the Elder Street ground, we will be able to announce the start dates. As a guide, junior team training will start in February 2022.
2022 FFA Cup
Our Senior Men’s team will be playing in the 2022 FFA Cup. This Cup Competition begins on the 12th February 2022. Our Men’s team will either enter the draw for the competition on Saturday the 19th February or Saturday 5th March 2022. Updates will be provided close to the day.
2022 Nike Cup
Our State 2NW senior women’s team will be playing in the 2022 Nike Cup. This Cup Competition begins on the Sunday 6th March 2022. Our senior women’s team will either enter the draw for the competition on Sunday the 20th March or Sunday 27th March 2022. Updates will be provided close to the day.
2022 Fixture Release from Football Victoria
Currently, Football Victoria plans to release the 2022 fixtures for the following teams on the following dates (these dates may change):
- Senior men (First and Reserve teams) – Friday 18th February 2022
- Senior women (2NW, 3N and 5N teams) – Friday 8th April 2022
- Senior men (Metropolitan teams) – Friday 8th April 2022
- Junior teams (Under 12 to Under 21) – Friday 8th April 2022
2022 Season Start and Finish dates from Football Victoria
Currently, Football Victoria plans to release the 2022 fixtures for the following teams on the following dates (these dates may change):

– Senior women (2NW, 3N and 5N teams) – Sunday 24th April through to 28th August

50 Year Celebration:
We are currently looking to hold our 50 year celebration Gala dinner in October 2022 – maybe the 8th or 15th October, once we can finalise dates with the venue. This whole club function will celebrate our first 50 years (1970-2020) as a club and the completion of the 2022 season. We hope to be able to share more details with you as soon as they are available.
